Who are the members of the Sheriff's Mounted Posse and what do we do!

The all-volunteer posse team consists of twenty non-sworn members and their
equine partners, with all members sharing two things in common: a love of horses and a desire to support their local
law enforcement. They are accountants, biologists, hair stylists, retirees, school teachers, and military men and women.
All horses are owned and kept by the volunteers, and funding for uniforms and equipment (traffic vests, helmets, etc.) is achieved
largely through membership dues, fundraisers, and donations from area businesses, thus requiring minimal expense on the county's
part.

Training is crucial; in addition to monthly meetings, the group trains several
times a month. However, the summer months are usually a little slower due to the extreme heat and humidity. The Posse's
'busy season' generally starts around Thanksgiving and concludes with Mardi Gras.

In addition to parking lot patrols, the Santa Rosa Sheriff's Mounted Posse participates
in Christmas parades, Mardi Gras parades, community events such as carnivals and festivals, and school and church functions.
They are available for search and rescue efforts should the need arise.

Each year the Posse also sponsors the "Sheriff's Saddle-up" trail ride, held at Coldwater State Park
in Munson, Florida. The ride is the only sponsored activity held each year as a fundraiser to help offset the cost of
training, some equipment items, and operating expenses.
